Module 1: Assertive Communication

What’s in it?
  • Minimising misunderstandings through clear messages and feedback;
  • Understanding assertive behaviour as opposed to passive and aggressive behaviour;
  • How to use body language and assertiveness to strengthen communication and deal with difficult situations;
  • How to confront unsatisfactory performance assertively.

How is it helpful?

Without clear assertive communication you will be unable to use leadership skills effectively.  This module shows how misunderstanding or lack of co-operation from  team members can be unintentionally caused by a leader and how this can be put right.

Module 2:Team Leadership

What’s in it?

  • How to gain respect from team members and ensure their willing support;
  • Task, Team and Individual Needs explained, and the importance of fulfilling those needs;
  • The common personality traits of leaders explored, together with methods to overcome perceived weaknesses.

How is it helpful?

A leader with great ideas but without the support of the team is not a leader because the team will not follow.  In these circumstances team members usually only do the minimum necessary for their leader.  They are unlikely to show initiative, give positive support or work toward success.  This module shows how respect can be gained and maintained.

Module 3: Coaching

What’s in it?

  • Understanding how people learn and using that knowledge to help them learn;
  • How to structure a coaching session and how to give effective, motivational feedback;
  • Developing a coaching culture within a team and the positive impression it can have both on the individual and the bottom line.  

How is it helpful?

Success as a leader depends upon the performance of team members.  Leaders need them to be as skilful as possible in their job role but can’t just depend on sending them on training courses to achieve this.  Team members need to learn new skills and keep existing ones sharp.  Coaching is the skill of leading others to learn.

Module 4: Delegation

What’s in it?

  • Why delegation should become an essential source of motivation to both the leader and the team;
  • What to delegate and how to do it effectively;
  • The difference between delegating and assigning;
  • The importance of delegation as a time management tool.

How is it helpful?

A leader who does not delegate de-motivates team members and becomes overburdened; team members don’t learn new skills and become frustrated while team output declines and stress on the leader increases.  This module shows how to delegate effectively and safely.

Module 5: Team Building

What’s in it?

  • Understanding the difference between a group and a team;
  • A six point checklist for building a team;
  • How to motivate individuals within a team; 
  • A self-help exercise with a Team Building Questionnaire.

How is it helpful?

If team members do not support and help each other towards achieving a goal that they all understand, then they will never perform to a high standard.  The alternative is people chasing their individual agendas leading to poor performance and high levels of management stress.  This module helps you understand how to bring people together to truly work as a team.
