Managing an Improving Team

The term 'group dynamics' has been much abused over the years and managers and supervisors have learned to view the term with a sceptical, and perhaps jaundiced, eye. This one-day workshop 'lifts the lid' on the potential that can be exploited through an appropriate recognition and application of the 'effective team'. There is no mystique to the notion that high performance teams can attain synergy (where the group product outweighs the collective sum of the individuals) and there is clear 'good practice' and relatively simple techniques to be employed. Whether you are required to form a team, or to take over an established one, this 1-day professional development event will be of substantial value in accelerating team development through to 'high performance'. We will review and discuss Tuckman's four stages (and some say there are five) of forming, storming norming and performing; identify ways of lubricating these, through effective leadership and identifying ways of ensuring the team, quickly, reach the stage of 'delivery' and significant accomplishment.

Key Objectives

On the successful completion of the course, delegates will be able to:

  • identify the necessary ingredients of a high performance team

  • tactically and operationally respond to team needs to optimise performance

  • engage with individuals to ensure team cohesion, collaboration and continuous development

  • manage and lead a high performance team; driving for synergy.
